It is the start of a beautiful day and Miss Clavel calls her twelve girls into two lines for the morning lesson. Madeline is scolded for answering out of turn but is quickly forgiven. At recess a new boy arrives who calls Madeline over to play with him, but she doesn’t like his "Bad Hat" and will only join in only when the other girls leapfrog. The play gets rough, the Bad Hat breaks his arm, and Miss Clavel is very angry with the girls. They are sorry and apologize to the Bad Hat - all except Madeline who points as if to say, "It was your bad behavior that brought this on!" The Bad Hat thinks about this and begs his mother to take everyone to the circus. At the circus, Madeline's high spirits cause her to endanger herself. The Bad Hat saves her and when Madeline starts to cry, he asks, once again, if he can be her friend. Madeline shyly accepts. Madeline and the Bad Hat at the Circus:: In this high-spirited ballet version of one of Faure's Madeline stories, Miss Clavel's twelve little girls assemble in two straight lines and then tease and test their new neighbor, a boy that Madeline has named "The Bad Hat." After some misadventures, they end up at the circus and become great friends. A Collection of Clown Ballets:: Frolic, conspire, and cavort with us as our ballet company explores the lighter side of dance. Pressure Cooker, Alchemist's Dream, and Pulcinellas will be sure to delight kids of all ages! |
